Free Ways To Boost Your Search Engine Ranking

There are a number of ways to boost your position on search engines like Google. We call this search engine optimization – or SEO – and it doesn’t always need to cost a fortune to achieve.

Here are some ways you can boost your position, without spending a cent.

Get Blogging

This is the number one way you can climb the ranks. Google puts a massive amount of ranking juice into “topical optimization”. We can distill this down in to one simple tip: Blog about your topic.

When you post articles about your niche or topic regularly, Google will reward you for doing so. The more articles you have on your topic, the better you’ll do. Here are a few things to keep in mind when blogging:

  • Don’t be sales-y. Be helpful. If your content is helpful, people will read it and engage with your blog. No one wants to read an advertisement.
  • Links, links, links. Link to other areas of your own site that are helpful, and link to other sites that are helpful. Google uses these links as indicators that you’re being helpful.
  • Use pictures & video. You’ll get higher engagement, and make the article more interesting.

Of course, if you’re not good at blogging, you can hire someone to create content for you. If you hire a pro, they should be doing more than just creating content – they should be?optimizing that article for SEO as much as possible.?You don’t need to worry too much about optimization – just blogging is a good start.

Get Social

It’s important to share your content if you want people to read it! Not only should you be sharing it on social media, but you should make it easy for others to share your content if they find it helpful. For example, on the left hand side of this page, you’ll see the ability to share this post on social media. Go ahead and give it a try – we’ll wait.

It’s that easy.

Beyond being able to just post blogs on social media, you’ll want to engage your customers or potential customers with helpful info. Don’t make every post a sales pitch. Share lots of helpful info – even directing them to other sites – so when you do direct them to your site, they know you’re just trying to be helpful.

Think About Keywords

You probably hear “keywords” a lot. That’s because words are the only Google knows what you’re talking about. Choosing the “key” words for your articles, social media and website pages helps Google know what you’re talking about!

You don’t need to have fancy software, or a high-priced agency to optimize your keywords. Sure, we can help you find the best keywords to target and ensure your hitting the mark, but this is about keeping it free – so keep it simple! A keyword is just a word, or phrase, that you want to rank higher in Google for. That’s it.

For example, if you want to rank higher for “custom body shop” you need to use those exact words. Don’t go crazy inserting them, you’ll get penalized for that. Just use them where it feels natural. A few times in a blog post is more than enough.
